Chinley Community Benefit Society Limited (Registration number 8820)
Chinley Co-op is a run by volunteers for the benefit of the community with any profits reinvested in the shop or environmentally friendly projects. We are registered as Chinley Community Benefit Society Limited with the Financial Conduct Authority who have approved our society rules.
As a Community Benefit Society we are permitted to sell shares. All shareholders become members which gives them a voice in determining the future direction of the Society. Each member is invited to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and has one vote regardless of how many shares they own. Members are also eligible, at the AGM, to stand for election to the Management Committee who manage the day to day operation of the society.
As a Community Benefit Society we would like to encourage as many people from the community in and around Chinley and Blackbrook to become members. One share costs £10. If you would like to join and are over 18 years of age please complete the application form at the link below together with your £10 payment. A share certificate will be emailed to you once your membership application has been processed. Membership applications will also be available at the shop.
As a new Society we need to raise some capital to launch and develop the shop. If you are interested in helping the Society by investing in additional shares please see details on our community investment page.
Data protection. Legislation requires that we maintain a register of shareholders, including names and contact details. We are compliant with data protection legislation. Email addresses will only be used to communicate with you on Chinley Co-op business and will not be supplied to any third parties without your consent unless we are legally required to do so. Your purchase of membership indicates your consent to us retaining this information. A copy of our data protection policy is available on request.
Membership. Shares cannot be transferred and are only repayable in limited circumstances (see Society rules). Members must notify the secretary of any change in contact details and membership will cease if a member fails to respond to 3 separate attempts to contact them.
