December Repair Shop

04-Dec-2025 No Comments

Our first repair shop at Chinley Coop proved popular. We successfully repaired 6 items and one item was not repairable:

  •  A kitchen mixer dial was not working – repaired by fitting a spring to the dial
  • A tape player was chewing up the tapes – repaired the transformer clamp, cleaned the tape roller, lubricated the take up spool clutch
  • A suitcase retractable handle did not retract- released one of 2 handle latches
  • Clock hour hand had fallen off – refitted the hour hand and replaced the battery
  • Bulk food dispenser had broken – designed and fitted new way to attach the dispenser to the work surface
  • Door latch bolt detached – reattached latch
  • An electric kettle had a broken spring on the lid – could not be repaired

If you have repair or just want some advice about a broken item come along to our next repair shop in Chinley Coop from 5pm – 7pm on Friday 5th December. It’s about repairing things (together). You can bring your broken items along and our volunteers will repair or help you to repair your item or give you advice. We can help with furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys etc and will try to help with any item you can bring in.

When you bring in an item you will be asked to complete a form to confirm that you have read our guidelines and accept the house rules of the repair shop. Our guidelines can be read here and the form is here (link to form). Electrical items will be PAT tested before and after repairing.

There is also a repair café in Chapel en le Frith that meets the second Saturday of the month. http://chapelrepaircafe.co.uk/
